The mission of the Jewish Historical Society of New Jersey, founded in 1990 by Saul Schwarz and Ruth and Jerome Fien, is to serve as the archival repository of the Jewish community of Greater MetroWest, encompassing Essex, Morris, Sussex, Union and portions of Somerset counties of New Jersey. We adhere to our mission by collecting, preserving, maintaining and making available to the public the records of administrative, legal, fiscal or historical value, historical artifacts, books, and oral history and manuscript collections. The Society serves the Jewish and general communities as a research center, exhibit center, producer of public forums, and publisher of books and papers on topics of historical Jewish interest.

The JHS is digitizing collections, so please check back regularly to see new content. Current collections include: New Jersey Jewish News - 1946 to 2016 and the Jewish Horizon - 1982 to 1997.
